When employees inside Walmart chose to speak out about their company’s slow-walking a response to the El Paso mass shooting, which killed 23 people in August 2019, they knew they were risking it all.

Thomas Marshall, the star of the coming documentary Walkout: Change at the World’s Largest Company, led the activists, and maintained his job throughout the experience. In his own words, “It was incredibly challenging, and I was always afraid of retaliation.”

Making a documentary about Walmart’s response to the El Paso shooting is as much about gun legislation as it is about employee rights. There are many questions about both that are addressed, yet not totally answered in the documentary film. The viewer will be the ultimate arbiter once the credits roll.
